Rebecca Caputo

Rebecca came in to talk to us about what she does. She likes to use inanimate objects and puppeteer them. To start with she put some music on and played with a bag and animated it and to be honest with you I thought she was a little crazy. But then she told us about her background being in theatre so she is a performer but she wanted to perform through puppets. Then she brought out her puppets. They were in a bit of a creepy style but they were actually pretty cool. I liked how she had used mix media like wood and silicon and i particularly liked how she made one of their mouths move with a peg!!
After she had shown us what she does she asked if we wanted to have a go. We all got a piece of newspaper and we had to screw it up and find its face and its eye line. This felt really weird and silly to start with but after we got into it it was quite fun! Our animals started interacting with each other!
I don't think this was of much relevance to me because I am not really interested in puppetry but a couple of things she did say was- Breathing brings the character to life. you have create the illusion of breathing and then you will automatically feel like it is alive. I think that is really good advice for animation as well. Also she said the eye line is really important as this is what makes the character believable. If the character is interacting with an object or someone then it needs to be looking at it!
